E. Sylvester Vizi is President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Born in 1936, he received his M.D degree in 1961. He is married and has two children. He has worked as a clinical pharmacologist since 1980. He is guest professor of psychiatry and anesthesiology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, New York, N.Y.
He is full professor and department chair of pharmacology and therapy at the Semmelweis University of Medicine, Budapest, Hungary. He has been a member of HAS since 1985. He has served as President of HAS since May 2002. His fields of research: brain, immune system, the nervous system in general, chemical neurotransmission in particular.
