Yücel Kanpolat, emeritus professor of Neurosurgery who worked in Ankara University, School of Medicine till 2009, is a worldwide pioneer in initializing the CT-guided stereotactic pain surgery and trained neurosurgeons from many countries. He has 158 articles published in journals refereed in Index Medicus, and continues to publish chapters about his technique in ‘Destructive Pain Surgery’ in classical books on Neurosurgery. He received the honorary titles of ‘Professor for Neurosurgical Pain Treatment’ by International Neuroscience Institute (Hannover), and the first ‘Paxton International Visiting Professor’ by Oregon Health & Science University. He was chairman of the Research Committee of European Association for Neurosurgery and its Vice President (2003-2007). He became President of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) in 2008, and he is also the chairman of the TÜBA Science Education Committee. He is on the international advisory boards of the journals Surgical Neurology and Neurosurgery.
